Follow us on the journey toward an eco friendly design!

In this article we will be discussing the most important aspects of sustainable packagings and why it is a priority for both brands and consumers - more now than ever before. Implementing eco friendly packagings into your product flow is not optional anymore - it's a necessity. We started working with this topic when our client 'Metreon' approached us with the request of designing a packaging for their power tools.

Do you need any more confirmation that environmentally friendly packaging has become the norm?

According to a recent study:

  • When it comes to purchasing decisions, 37% of Americans prioritize sustainability.
  • As a result of the pandemic, 51% of supply chain specialists predict the circular economy to gain prominence in the next two years.
  • Customers are willing to pay a premium for products that meet sustainability claims, according to 30% of consumers.

Many of us have grown up with the term "reduce, reuse, recycle" ingrained in our minds. Today, it's critical that you reflect these same principles in your business. Not only to benefit the environment, but also to boost brand loyalty among environmentally concerned customers.

What is sustainable design in packaging?

Sustainable packaging is created with the goal of causing the least amount of environmental damage possible. This can be accomplished by repurposing materials. A great way of designing sustainable packagings is using a clean and minimalistic design approach, especially when the purpose is e-commerce anyway.

Why packaging sustainability is important

But it isn't just the end user who is pushing for more sustainable packaging.

Unilever Australia, for example, has recently exerted pressure on the Australian government.  Unilever has called on the government to do more to combat plastic pollution.  And if large corporations can put pressure on governments, that means:

  • Consumers want to be associated with brands that care about the environment.
  • The endeavour to improve their public image is being led by large corporations.
  • Smaller and medium-sized businesses will be compelled to use sustainable packaging.

Eco-friendly packaging materials

Many people believe that ordinary cardboard is an environmentally friendly material.

That's because it is.

It's the most natural, ethical, sustainable, and reusable packaging available. Because corrugated cardboard is organic, it is the go-to choice for packaging sustainability.

Cardboard boxes are available in a variety of shapes and sizes. Another of cardboard's advantages is...well, its ability to be strong. Cardboard boxes with double and triple walls can hold a tremendous amount of weight. It can also withstand blunt and penetrating forces. As a result, cardboard can keep your product safe throughout transportation.

A simple cardboard box is likewise biodegradable to an extent of over 80%.  It easily breaks down in landfills if it is kept whole when your consumer throws it in the bin.

Conclusion

The way we handle packaging is going to develop and alter as a result of a global shift toward combating climate change. Rather than being a secondary consideration, ecologically friendly packaging will become increasingly significant.
